Laughter...

As a mommy, author, speaker, artist, former licensed attorney, and wife, Emily has a very fulfilling and busy life despite the autoimmune disease that wracks her body! Emily and her husband, Scott, practice attachment parenting with their nine year old daughter, Sage, and twenty-two year old nephew, Rickey. They work as a family to fill their home with love, laughter and acceptance. Emily home schools their daughter and enjoys every moment of learning and exploration.

She utilizes a combination of eastern philosophy and new age spirituality to steer her experiences and works closely with bestselling author, Neale Donald Walsch, on his program for families called Conversations with God for Parents. She has co-authored a book with Neale Donald Walsch and Laurie Lankins Farley called Conversations with God for Parents, scheduled for publication in October 2015.

Emily wrote a series of children's books called the With My Child series, intended to help parents and children bond through every day activities. She also writes on the topic of parenting and spirituality for an Australian Parenting magazine called Nurture Magazine.  Her blogs have been featured by Myositis Support and Understanding Association and the Muscular Dystrophy Association's Transitions Blog.

Emily has been living with an autoimmune disease for the past twenty years and recently wrote a book about living a happy life in spite of her disease. The Marvelous Transformation: Living Well with Autoimmune Disease published in July, 2015 by Central Recovery Press and is available now! Click herefor more information. Emily's health has prevented her from many typical experiences such as working a full-time job, being as active as she would like, and living a "normal" life. But through positivity and gratitude (and a lot of naps) she has managed to live well anyway!

In her quest for better health, Emily has embraced many alternative modalities including Reiki, acupuncture, herbal and vitamin supplements, massage, yoga, and essential oils. In fact she, her daughter, and nephew (a massage therapist) have all become Reiki Practitioners due to the its healthful effects. More information can be found here. She has found one of the most important tools of living a fulfilled life with her disease is humor.

Emily is actively involved in her community. She has become involved with a patient-centered organization, Myositis Support and Understanding. She serves on their newly forming Board of Directors and is active in their two Facebook support groups: one for people diagnosed with Myositis and the other for people suspected of having Myositis but still in the diagnostic process. She recently co-coordinated and co-hosted a Trivia Night and Silent Auction event for a local youth figure skating club. She engages in charitable giving opportunities, donating her children's books to multiple child-centered charities every year. Please email her at info@withmychildseries.com if your organization would like to discuss book donations.

Emily has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in English from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri and a Juris Doctor from St. Louis University School of Law. Her career path has been winding and unpredictable but she feels that writing has brought her to where she was always supposed to be, bringing joy and peace to peoples' lives.

She hopes you feel her love and find inspiration in her work!
